2025 Date Coming Soon
Join us for a day of handling and firing Civil War weapons! Whether you are a novice who has never handled a period weapon before or someone who just wants to fire an old friend, this is your opportunity to burn some powder. We will spend the day at North South Skirmish Association (NSSA) HQ near Winchester, VA. NSSA’s experts will supervise and instruct us on handling multiple types of firearms including smoothbore muskets, rifled muskets, a variety of carbines & rifles, and revolvers. After a lunch break, we will increase the fire power with some cannons and mortars.
Your hosts will be Gettysburg historian Jim Hessler and Battle of Gettysburg Podcast co-host Jody Wilson. This event will be supervised by the volunteer staff at NSSA. Lunch will be provided on site.
Every Civil War historian needs to experience actual firearms so don’t miss this unique opportunity!

The Battle of Little Big Horn is notable for being one of the most decisive Native American victories and the worst defeat for the U.S. Army during the Plains Indian Wars. It is also one of the most controversial battles in miliary history. Our tours provide a unique perspective on the events that unfolded here, allowing you to understand the complexities of this pivotal moment that shaped the future of the western United States.
The portrayal of the battle has evolved over time, with narratives often reflecting the perspectives of either the U.S. military or the Native American tribes. This has led to differing interpretations of the events before during and after the battle. With our team, you will follow the 7th cavalry's ill-fated route towards the Little Big Horn. We take the time to examine the key locations, soldiers, warriors, and moments of the infamous conflict in June 1876.
